Barcelona’s spending on Arsenal players reaches £131m.

Barcelona’s spending on Arsenal players is set to reach £131m with their latest move to sign Thomas Vermaelen, according to Mundo Deportivo.

A long list of big names have made the move from north London to Catalunya in the Arsene Wenger era, with Vermaelen set to join the likes of Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas and Alex Song as recent players to move between the two clubs.

Despite many of these names failing to replicate their best Arsenal form upon moving to the Nou Camp, Barca continue to raid the Gunners almost every summer, and it is no surprise to see such a high total of transfer fees paid by the Catalan giants to the Emirates Stadium side.

Vermaelen was one of a number of top defensive targets for new manager Luis Enrique, with moves for the likes of Mats Hummels and Marquinhos failing to pay off after Jeremy Mathieu was also brought in from Valencia.
