Incredible: FG Assures Of Stable Power Supply By October 2014.

The Federal Government of Nigeria made a highly-controversial statement on August 29, 2014, Friday, promising to ensure stable power supply by October 2014.

This has been contained in the statement by the Minister of Power Prof Chinedu Nebo, who declared at the State House, Abuja, while briefing the newsmen upon the termination of a meeting hosted by Vice President Namadi Sambo.

The minister attributed the improvement to the fact of improved gas supply for Nigeria. He explained that repair and maintenance works at major facilities were coming to an end.

Prof Nebo also informed that the FG was doing its best to ensure that the bills of power generating companies were paid promptly.

“We hope that by the beginning of October, we will see a much better stabilisation of the entire power delivery system in the country.”

In April 2014 this parameter exceeded 4,100MW.

Tambuwal Advises Jonathan On 2015 Elections.

Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal on Saturday, 30 August, 2014, advised President Goodluck Jonathan not to over-militarize the upcoming 2015 general election in the country.

Tambuwal, who made his indignation of the undue use of military operatives during election known in Benin while speaking at the residence of the deputy governor of Edo state, Dr. Pius Odubu, described the president’s action as “undemocratic”.

He added that the states must not be over-militarized during elections in order not to discourage people from voting.

‎The speaker advised that heavy military presence should rather be deployed at the front line in Northeast states like Adamawa, Borno and Yobe where men of the dreaded Boko Haram have continued to reign supreme.

“I have made my position known at the NBA conference about a week ago. And I said that it is not the best of fashion in a democracy that you militarize a process to the extent that voters get intimidated and scared and they rather withdraw and remain indoors,” he said, just as he urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to ensure the conduct of a free and fair election.

Surprise: Obasanjo Blames Liberia For Sending Ebola To Nigeria.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo commented on the current outbreak of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the country. He said it was “devilish enough that Patrick Sawyer in connivance with some Liberian authorities,” imported ‘the evil’ to Nigeria.
Obasanjo made this statement in the afternoon of August 30, 2014, during a talk on ‘An afternoon with Obasanjo’ programme organised by Inside Watch Africa continental magazine, published by Oluwaseyi Adegoke-Adeyemo.

He further urged Nigerians to observe all the prescribed safety measures, because there is still no drug which can definitely cure the disease.

Boko Haram Leader Claims Gwoza In New Video

He further noted that the terrorists are increasing their numbers, keep getting good weaponry and would soon be ready to capture new areas.

Obasogie further explained how he got the information on what was going on in the college. According to him, a member of his church, who was also one of the trainers in the college, was able to spread this information. The officer was held hostage by Boko Haram, but managed to escape to the capital of the neighbouring Adamawa State, Yola.

It would be noted that the captured college has a strategic meaning, because it is one of the two colleges of such type in Nigeria. The attackers were also able to seize not least than 200 assault rifles, ammunition and many more items from the armoury of the training institution.

There were over 5 units with 59 personnel in each at college at the time of the attack. However, due to unknown reasons, they failed to produce strong resistance to the assaulters.

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau in his video message released by the press August 24 announced the creation a Caliphate in Gwoza. The dreaded sect is now allegedly using the palace of the Emir of Gwoza as their headquarters.
At the same time, the Defence Headquarters were not intimidate by such a declaration, assured that the area would soon be cleared of all kinds of the insurgents.

Disturbing news come from Gwoza town in Borno state, as Boko Haram members now allegedly use captured police college as their training grounds and its instructors as teachers.

The college is a riot police academy in Liman Kara, on the outskirts of Gwoza. It was overrun by terrorists on August 20, 2014, Wednesday. The attack left dozens of people dead, while 35 policemen were declared missing.

Mr. Gideon Obasogie, who is the Director, Catholic Social Communications, Maiduguri Diocese of the Catholic Church, shed some light on the fate of the missing officers in an interview with Punch on August 29, 2014, Friday.

According to his information, the police instructors are alive, at least those of them who have agreed to cooperate with the dreaded sect.

“The world must know the truth. People were captured and taken to the police training ground for serious training as combatants. It is now one of their strongest bases,” Obasogie stated.

Reality: Ebola Drug Passes Early Test.

After all the bad news that have been going round over the outbreak of the Ebola virus in West African countries, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia, a piece of good news finally arrived some moments ago.

According to the scientists report, the drug test results showed that ZMapp cured lab monkeys that have been infected with the Ebola virus disease.

Unbelievable: Suspected Ebola Victim Escapes From Port Harcourt

It would be recalled that Prfesident Jonathan on 8 August discouraging large gatherings to check the spread of the Ebola virus brought into the country on 20 July by a Liberian-America, Patrick Sawyerr.

The president had said, “Religious and political groups, spiritual healing centres, families, associations and other bodies should, in the meantime, discourage gatherings and activities that may unwittingly promote close contact with infected persons or place others at risk.”

Also, while briefing journalists at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting, the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku directed that the Osun Osogbo billed for August 20 as well as other major events in the country should be suspended to curtail the spread of the virus.

The insistence by TAN to go ahead with the rally runs contrary to directives given by the presidency. As at the time of compiling this report, the presidency is yet to release a statement on the rally.

According to the World Health Organisation, W.H.O, about 1500 people have died from the outbreak of the Ebola virus in Nigeria, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia since February 2014.

Pro-Jonathan Rally Holds In Port Harcourt.

The Transformation Ambassador of Nigeria, TAN, a group campaigning for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan, said it would go ahead with its planned rally in Port Harcourt, Rivers State today, 30 August, 2014 despite warning that participants at the rally might have been infected by the deadly Ebola virus.

It was gathered that toth the presidency and the health ministry have failed to stop the group despite warning that such large gatherings could aid the spread of the virus that has so far killed six people in Nigeria.

Speaking on the rally on Friday, TAN’s Director of Media, Udenta Udenta, said arrangement for a successful rally where the people of South-South zone would urge the president to run in the February 2015 presidential election, had been concluded.

“The rally will hold,” Udenta told Premium Times on Friday night. “The Ebola issue is being over-hyped. We have sanitised every location and there is no cause for alarm.”

It would be recalled that the rally, scheduled to take place at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt, is coming on the heels of the death of a medical doctor, Ikechukwu Enemuo  from the Ebola virus  and the quarantine of over 160 people in Port Harcourt.

After the outbreak of the deadly virus in the oil rich city, the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu had promised that the Federal Government would take measures to contain the disease in Rivers just as it did in other states where the disease had been discovered.

“The Incidental Management Committee, IMC, has already deployed a very strong team to Port Harcourt to work with the health authorities of Rivers State.

“Just like the situation has been effectively been managed in Lagos and Enugu, the situation in Port Harcourt will also similarly be effectively managed and we have begun to do so,” the minister said in a press briefing.

TAN held similar rallies in Awka, Anambra State, in the South East zone (August 16) and Ibadan in Oyo State in the South West zone last Saturday.

At the Awka rally, TAN said it mustered 1.6 million signatures asking Mr. Jonathan to run in the February 14 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The group said it also collected 1.8 million signatures in the South West.

According to statement released by TAN, it stated that after the Port Harcourt rally, it plans to shift the rallies to the northern part of the country with Minna in North Central zone hosting the next one on September 13, Gombe, North East September 20 and Kano, North West September 27.

The grand finale of the rally holds at the Eagles Square, Abuja on September 30.

However, some civil and political activists had criticised the conduct of the rallies.

The opposition party, APC had on Thursday asked President Jonathan to stop the campaign.
“Mr. President, you said your ambition is not worth the life of any Nigeria. But the TAN rallies for your re-election are endangering the lives of thousands of Nigerians in these days of Ebola. Some things must simply transcend politics. This is one of them, Please stop the rallies now,” the party said in a statement by its spokesperson, Lai Mohammed.

Also, a group, Buhari Vanguard, on Friday asked the president to instruct TAN to suspend the Port Harcourt rally.

A statement sent by the group to the media read: “We urge President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately instruct the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria TAN to suspend the scheduled rally until the Ebola Virus is successfully curtailed in Rivers state and other parts of Nigeria. Mr President is the chief custodian of the law in Nigeria and it will be ridiculous for the Chief custodian of the law to break the laws he has made without recourse.”

Terrible: Boko Haram Takes Over Catholic Church

The dreaded Boko Haram sect have reportedly taken over the Catholic Church house, as well as houses of Christians in Madagali, Adamawa State.

Russian Expert Alleges APC Benefits From Insurgency.

Russian military analyst wrote a piece published by Al Jazeera News where he revealed why Boko Haram violence is a political issue and who stands to profit from it.

It is none of a secret that the two competing Nigerian parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), have on numerous occasions accused each other of sponsoring insurgency in the country. The allegations are getting even more spicy ahead of the elections to be held in Nigeria next year.

This time the analytics comes from outside, as expert Alexander Nekrassov, Russian international political commentator and former Senior Advisor to the Kremlin, who tags the APC as “Muslim extremists”.

In an editorial made public last month Nekrassov starts with the opinion that Kremlin’s official position on any conflict  in the world is tightly linked with the question “What’s in it for the Yanks? Or, if we put it in the language of the statements that have been coming from Moscow in the past several months over Ukraine: What’s in it for our American partners?” By this the analyst actually means that Washington strategically views the whole world as its backyard and does everything possible to pursue its agenda with remarkable determination and ruthlessness, Thisday noted in its analysis.

Thus, touching upon the topic of terrorism in Nigeria, Nekrassov wrote that the question “What is in it for our American partners?” is yet to provide any real answers for the Kremlin, but contended that the “view there is that had US First Lady Michelle Obama not lent her support to the very high profile “Bring Our Girls Back” hash tag campaign after Boko Haram kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls in the province of Borno, the US, and the West, would have probably remained indifferent to the crisis in Nigeria.”

Rise of Boko Haram

Recalling that Boko Haram was set up as a non-violent movement which has started shedding blood only since 2009, Nekrassov adds that the reasons for violence in country north appear for Russian officials confusing, as Boko Haram “is actually fighting for control of the area that has no oil reserves”.

“The interesting angle on the crisis in Nigeria is that it is seen in Moscow as political conflict rather than a religious one, even though the country is equally split between Muslims and Christians. As the thinking in Moscow goes, if it was a classic “religious war”, then Boko Haram would not have been indiscriminate in murdering both Muslims and Christians.”

However, he Chairman of PDP in the council, Tunde Fabiyi, while confirming the incident, made it known that the bullet that hit Jimi Agbaje’s supporter was from the rifle of one of the policemen attached to the politician who wanted to scare the thugs away from his boss, but things went wrong.

Tunde said: “Yes, it was true a PDP supporter was shot, but it is not as it is being painted by the social media. What really happened was that Agbaje was mobbed by some young boys after the rally, and in a bid to disperse the crowd, a shot was fired, which incidentally hit one of those who came with Agbaje.”

Notice: Buhari Speaks On APC Presidential Candidate

With the 2015 elections fast approaching, the APC has announced that it would start its primary elections in October 2014, to enable them nominate a presidential candidate for the 2015 general election. There have however been insinuations that Gen. Buhari, may likely emerge the APC candidate.

Buhari, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not new in the race for presidency as he has been consistently contesting since 2003 and has not won any of the 3 elections.

In 2003, Buhari contested the presidential election as the candidate of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP). He was defeated by the Peoples Democratic Party nominee, President Oluseun Obasanjo.

He contested again on the platform of the ANPP in 2007 and was defeated by the PDP candidate, late President Umaru Yar Adua

In March 2010, Buhari left the ANPP for the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) on whose platform he contested in 2011 against President Goodluck Jonathan but he lost.

Meanwhile, report surfaced yesterday that the Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has declared his intention to run for the post of president on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Buhari To Declare Presidential Ambition Soon.

Following his nationwide consultation over next year’s general elections, former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari may likely declare for the presidential race within the next few days.

One of his political aides disclosed that Buhari was set to contest the 2015 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Leadership reports that the aide who pleaded anonymity for tactical reasons revealed this to some journalists in Abuja yesterday, August 27.

Report: Yesterday Wednesday 27, Cameroonian Army Kills 27 Boko Haram In Clashes.

Cameroonian army has killed 27 members of  the Boko Haram terrorist sect near a northern town in Nigeria, state radio said on Wednesday, 27 August, 2014.

It would be recalled that the Boko Haram fighters were reported to have crossed Nigeria’s border into Cameroon on Monday after attacking a military base and police station in Borno, north east Nigeria.

It was reported that some 480 Nigerian troops absconded into Cameroon as a result of the heavy fighting with the terrorists.

“Cameroon soldiers have killed 27 Boko Haram elements during an attack in a locality near Fotokol in the far-north’’, state radio/CRTV said.

According to the report, the deaths occurred on Monday and Tuesday but there was no word on any Cameroonian casualties.

A Cameroonian soldier in the region said the militants had been pushed back into Nigeria, with calm returning to the area on Wednesday.

In recent weeks, Boko Haram, which claimed to be seeking an Islamic state in northern Nigeria, has stepped up terror attacks in Cameroon.

A trend that has forced the central African country to increase deployments of troops along its border with Nigeria.

Last month, President Paul Biya dismissed two senior army officers following attacks in which at least seven people were killed and the wife of the vice prime minister was kidnapped.

The Nigerian military had said on Monday that it would soon begin a massive attack on Boko Haram after the militants, in a video, proclaimed Gwoza town in Borno state as its Islamic caliphate.

The Islamist sect has claimed responsibility for many terror attacks in northern Nigeria and other parts of the country since its intensified its insurgency in 2009.

Happening: Omisore Heads To Tribunal.

Almost three weeks after the governorship election in Osun State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the polls, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has announced that he would file a petition before the state elections tribunal in Osogbo, the state capital.

Senator Omisore, who rejected the results of the election held on 9 August, 2014, alleged that there were massive irregularities and monumental fraud perpetrated by the winner of the polls, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to a statement signed by the former deputy governor of Osun, Omisore said after a comprehensive review of the processes leading to the outcome of the election in Osun State, he is convinced that there were massive irregularities and monumental fraud perpetrated by Aregbesola and the APC in the state.

As it relates: :First Official Comments of Aregbesola After Being Re-Elected

“We have decided to challenge this brazen attempt to subvert the wishes of the electorate who came out to support our Rescue Mission Campaign, and gubernatorial candidate of the Osun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the tribunal as provided for by the constitution and electoral laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“In our effort, we are mindful of the massive investment in deceit-driven propaganda unleashed on the citizens of Osun State by the APC.

“This, they hope will distract attention from how electoral heist was perpetrated by the Ogbeni Aregbesola and his colleagues long before the election and the deployment of O-YES cadets as election officers to compromise the valid votes of the people of the state,” the statement read.

He expressed commitment to ensuring that scientific rigging of elections in Osun, and indeed Nigeria was exposed and reversed.

“Our legal team will reveal shocking graphic details of pre-election rigging led by the leadership of the APC who had directed that all its officers relocate to Osun State before the election in addition to the subversive roles these ubiquitous officials played in the election as they compromised some of the INEC officials,” he said.

Omisore said on account of those allegations, and many other damning revelations, he was convinced that the announced outcome of the governorship election in Osun was not a true reflection of the votes cast in the election.

Health Experts reports that Ebola Outbreak Will Worsen.

The director of the Centers for Disease Control Tom Frieden says the Ebola epidemic currently ravaging West Africa will worsen before it gets better.

The US top officials insisted that in order to handle the ongoing outbreak of the tropical virus first recognized in 1976, the “unprecedented” response would be required, BBC reports.

West African ministers are to meet in Ghana today, August 28, to discuss the ways of dealing with the situation as the death toll caused by Ebola is gradually approaching 1,500, according to World Health Organization (WHO).

In a meeting with the Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, whose country got mostly affected by the crisis, Frieden said:

With Shock as President Jonathan said that we have Contained Ebola.

Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan has demanded that the discrimination against Nigerians due to the stigma of Ebola be halted.
He said this during a meeting with a Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General, David Navarro, yesterday. The President was talking precisely about the Nigeria’s Youth Team’s decision to withdraw from their participation at the Youth Olympics in China due to discrimination they faced.

Jonathan Meets Obasanjo On Insecurity In Nigeria

Jonathan said that Nigeria has effectively contained the virus and that the virus never reached epidemic level in the country.

He asked  UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon to act on the sudden rise of discrimination against Nigerians.

Jonathan then went forward and praised the job done by the Federal Ministry of Health, the Lagos State Government and all Nigerians for making this nation safe from the deadly virus.
“All hands have been on deck to contain the virus here. I commend my team and the Lagos State Government,” he said.

Terrible: A Man Died From Ebola In Port Harcourt.

Nigerian’s health minister Onyebuchi Chukwu has today confirmed the first recorded death from Ebola in Port Harcourt.
It would be recalled that yesterday it was unofficially reported that the doctor whose name is yet to be provided died August 22 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, from the deadly tropical virus.

The top Nigerian health official confirmed August 28 the information:

“This primary contact of Mr. Sawyer’s evaded our surveillance team in the last week of July 2014 and traveled out of Lagos to Port Harcourt where, as we now understand, he consulted with a doctor and was apparently treated for some symptoms.”

“Following the report of this death by the doctor’s widow the next day, the case had been thoroughly investigated and laboratory analysis showed that this doctor died from
Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).”

The deceased secretly treated a diplomat who had contacted the first Ebola victim in Nigeria, Patrick Sawyer (the index case). It was also confirmed that the man’s wife and 70 more people were placed under surveillance.

Experts Reveal Shekau's Intentions.

Experts comment on the recent video released by Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau where he declares caliphate in Nigeria and express their opinion on the the terrorist’s current intentions.
In the fresh Boko Haram video obtained by AFP August 24, the group announced that the captured town of Gwoza was now under an Islamic caliphate, which claim triggered a lot of talks about the actual meaning of the phrase.

On numerous occasions analysts have spolen about the similarity between the Nigerian terrorist group and Islamic State (IS) operating in Iraq, and now  they suggest that the pronouncement might be connected with Shekau’s desire to get more media attention like IS.

It is believed that IS might have inspired his scandalous claim made in the new video after the IS had recently attracted the international attention by seizing parts of Iraq and Syria in a brutal onslaught.

As narrated: Boko Haram Insurgents Relocate From Sambisa.

Information coming in from Borno State in northern Nigeria suggest that the Boko Haram insurgents might be changing their base from the Sambisa forest moving towards southern Borno.

According to a report published by Sahara Reporters today, Wednesday, 27 August, 2014, residents living near Sambisa forest in Borno State have reported seeing a large number of Boko Haram militants leaving the thick forest Tuesday’s morning and moving towards southern Borno.

It was gathered that a security source also confirmed the account of the villagers.

The source informed that Nigeria’s intelligence agents were aware that members of the Islamist sect, who had been holed up in Sambisa forest, seemed to be relocating to the large territories they have captured in their recent attacks.

He added that the insurgents’ relocation is most likely motivated by the sect’s recent successes in capturing several major towns in northern Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa States.

According to some villagers, who claimed to witness the militants’ relocation, the insurgents had been moving their families and possibly many of their abductees to safer grounds in towns captured in recent weeks.

A villager in Kirawa, a town on the Cameroonian side, also said he had seen some suspected Boko Haram militants moving through Cameroonian territory to Nigeria with large amounts of cargo in tightly secured convoys.

Disclosing this yesterday, August 26 at the close of the three weeks orientation exercise, at the camp, the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) Coordinator in the State, Mr. Steven Ehoda-adi, said the fake corps members who had nothing to show that they were qualified for admission into the camp, were immediately sent away.

Mr Steven said some of the corps members claimed to have been attacked by armed robbers on their way to Minna and their call up letters taken away from them while some said they misplaced their call up letter.

He added that some others presented only photocopies of the call up letter which according to him is not accepted by NYSC authority.

Buhari Pessimistic About Investigation.

Former Military President of the Nigeria and National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) has said that he does not believe that the investigations over the recent attack on his life will be successful.
He revealed his pessimism in a sit-down with popular Hausa newspaper, Rariya in the Federal State Capital Abuja.

He also urged other opposition parties to come together with APC and help them take down the ruling party, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the upcoming 2015 National Elections.

In conjunction
Buhari said that if the FG can’t still find the Chibok girls, he doesn’t expect them to catch the attackers who tried to kill him.

“You are asking me of progress. Have you forgotten that over 200 girls are missing for over three months now and nothing has happened? Ok.

I know I’m a former Head of State and I decided to be in politics of opposition. Imagine your daughter being among the missing girls. So to come and talk to me about a near-death situation while over 200 children are still missing is insensitive. I do not expect anything to come out of the investigation into the attack on me, honestly”, he said.

Buhari Speaks On APC Presidential Candidate.

Barely seven months before the 2015 general elections, former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, has revealed how his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, will select its presidential candidate.

Buhari, who is a national leader of the opposition party, made this disclosure in an interview he had with a team of editors from the leading Hausa Newspaper, Rariya, in his office in Abuja, recently.

According to the interview, the former Head of State talks about the state of  insecurity, the unemployment of Nigerian youths, lack of confidence in the presidency and so many issues confronting the country.

Below are excerpts from the interview published by Premium Times on Tuesday, 26 August, 2014, with permission from Rariya:

If you become the President today, how will you tackle the myriad of problems confronting the country and restore confidence in governance?

First I have to secure the country, because unless you secure the country, nothing can be done properly, So, first it is security and then how to manage the country, that is by resuscitating the economy, the infrastructure, getting the factories reopened, getting employment and goods and services. It is much easier to damage than to rebuild, but everybody agrees that Nigeria is an incredibly resourceful country, both materially and human wise. So it is a question of the elite getting their acts together and making sure the country is organized in such a way that it can be secured and managed well. It is not easy because a number of the institutions have being compromised. What do you do with the Nigerian Police in terms of their efficiency? The military itself? The judiciary?

Happily: Eight Missing Policemen Found In Gwoza.

Latest news emanating from Abuja inform that the Nigerian Police authorities have announced that eight of its 35 personnel that were declared missing after an attack on the Police Mobile Force training camp at Gwoza, Borno, have been found.

Terrible: Tom Ikimi Quits APC.

The problems that triggered his move started in June over the national convention issue, Thisday recalls. The former Minister of Foreign Affairs Ikimi breated APC’s first convention held in Abuja.

He refused to show up at the event accusing the party Governors Forum AGF and Lagos ex-governor Bola Tinubu of having decided on the outcome in advance. He insisted “the party was now run as a private property”.

WEMA Bank To Bar Customers Over Ebola.

Following the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, in Nigeria, many banks have introduced new measures to curtail the spread of dreaded disease.

Investigation revealed that among the new preventive measures introduced by some of the Nigerian banks are self-dispensing hand sanitisers, and body temperature scanners at all their branches in the country.

Checks also revealed that some of the banks have introduced protective gears for members of its staffs especially those who deal directly with customers.

According to a notice to customers released by WEMA on Monday, 25 August, 2015, the bank said henceforth all customers and visitors to any branch of the bank would be required to use the hand sanitisers and be scanned for symptoms of fever before being admitted into their banking halls.

“In the wake of the recent Ebola Virus Disease outbreak across West Africa, we are compelled to introduce the following preventive health and safety initiatives at all our business locations in order to ensure a safe banking environment for all customers and staff,” the bank stated.
All customers and visitors are required to use the hand sanitisers and also undergo a quick non-invasive body temperature scan before being allowed into our banking halls and business locations.

“In addition, some of our staff at the more sensitive desks will also be required to wear some protective gears while interacting with customers and other visitors during this period”  the statement read.

However, Premium Times reports that the bank did not say if provisions will be made for customers who are denied access due to their body temperature or other health concerns.

A visit to some branches of Guaranty Trust Bank, GTB, also showed that the bank has started implementing new safety measure aimed at curtailing the spread of the Ebola virus.

At the GTB branch on Allen Avenue in Ikeja, Lagos State, customers were scanned  for their body temperatures before being allowed into the banking halls by security guards.

Nigerians will be required to pay extra charges on ATM.

With effect from 1 September, 2014, Nigerians will be required to pay extra charges when they withdraw money from Automated Teller Machines, ATMs, other than the bank they have an account, this is according to the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

The CBN had on Wednesday, 13 August, 2014, announced its re-introduction of withdrawals from other ATMs.

According to the statement released by the apex bank, the new fee to be paid is N65, a reduction from the N100 that was obtainable before 2012 when ATM’s fees was cancelled.

Since the announcement of the latest CBN directive, Nigerians have continued to express their displeasure over the new move.

Though one of the reasons the CBN  claimed necessitated the re-introduction of the ATM withdrawal fee was an attempt to stem abuse of the ATMs by some bank customers, however the decision does not seem to please many ATM users in the country.

Many of the users, that spoke with our correspondent in this report, groaned at the new development. They complained that the re introduction of the charges would discourage them from using the ATM while several others insisted on a total reversal to the ‘zero charges’ that used to operate in the country.

Nigerian Killed By Police In Mozambique "For No Reason"

Nnamdi is a Mozambique-based businessman and indigene of Imo State. He says his fellow Nigerian businessman was, on Friday, August 22, 2014, shot to death by Mozambican policemen “without any reason.” The deceased, according to Nnamdi, is an Igbo indigene of Enugu State.

According to our reader, Nigerians are mistreated by the police in Mozambique, especially in the country’s capital Maputo where the tragic shooting occurred. He describes Mozambicans as “lazy and envious,” adding they “hate Nigerians”.

Our reader calls on the Nigerian government to step in and bring to a stop the mistreatment, humiliation and abuse Nigerian citizens have to suffer from the hands of Mozambicans.

“Non-Nigerian foreigners settle down in Mozambique happily. But the police in Maputo, Mozambique, are intimidating us,”

“When they see a Nigerian, they search him and confiscate whatever is in their bag.

“What concerns me, I was robbed twice by the police here. They collected all the money I had on me.

AMAZING: 2015: Tambuwal In Secret Meeting With Northern Politicians.

According to sources who spoke to Daily Independent, the speaker has also set up the Tambuwal Presidential Project, (TPP), whose membership is drawn from top politicians in the North, members of the National Assembly, as well as APC chieftains, who are not disposed to General Mohammadu Buhari’s presidential ambition.

Top APC officials who are not in favour of Buhari running for the post of President are said to be holding secret meetings to convince the Speaker who is seen as the most acceptable among Northern politicians desperately yearning for power to return to the North in 2015, to join the party and contest the Presidential ticket of the party.

Those in the North are of the opinion that Tambuwal, coming from Sokoto State, a key North Western state of the country, would be a better candidate to compete with President Goodluck Jonathan in the event that he (Jonathan) emerged the PDP presidential candidate.

By Researchers: Ebola Started With A Toddler.

The research has showed that the ongoing epidemic of Ebola started with a chance contact of a toddler with a bat.

According to The Guardian, the group of international scientists came to such a conclusion  after having conducted the major investigation regarding the origin of the virus, which has claimed nearly 1500 of lives in West Africa.

Governor of Adamawa "Murtala Nyako" will Return to Office.

Murtala Nyako, the former Governor of Adamawa State, has expressed optimism that he will return to office as the state governor because the lawmakers didn’t follow the laid down procedure in removing him.

The ousted governor made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by his media adviser, Mr. Sajoh Ahmed, a copy obtained by Vanguard.

The former governor, who had already filed an appeal at the Appeal Court challenging his removal, said there were justifiable reasons to prove that he was unjustly impeached from office by his opponents, who breached the constitutional rules to achieve their aim.

Nyako expressed hope that the court would return him to office because the process leading to his forceful and undemocratic impeachment was illegal.

According to him, the Nigerian judiciary, which is made up of men of integrity and honour, would not find it difficult to restore him to his seat based on evidence that his opponents breached all the provisions of the law to remove him from office due to political reasons.

Nyako further noted that he was optimistic because the judiciary had in the past reversed the removal of governors Joshua Dariye of Plateau, Rashidi Ladoja of Oyo and Peter Obi of Anambra, hence it won’t be difficult for him to be restored as well since he was forced out of office by desperate people.

Nyako, however, advised his supporters to accept the current reality and prepare for the October 15 by-election, which he said would be a repeat of the scenario in Anambra State when Andy Uba emerged the governor after winning an election, but later vacate the seat after 16 days following the court decision which returned Peter Obi.

Meanwhile, it’s been forty days since Nyako was removed from office. It would be recalled that Nyako was impeached from office by the state lawmakers after he was found guilty of corruption charges.

The former governor was to be probed over N82billion debt profile by the Government as reported on July 28, 2014.   His removal from office also led to mass defection from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Th dreaded sect who were heavily armed stormed the administrative headquarters of Madagali local government area in the early hours of today, August 23, dislodging the Nigerian soldiers who were guarding the facility and surrounding areas.

According to a security source who spoke to Sahara Reporters, the insurgents who came in their hundreds were armed with shoulder-fired rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and anti-aircraft mortar guns mounted on pickup vans.

They were said to have been led by armored vehicles which they had seized earlier from Nigerian troops during their attack in Gwoza, Borno State.

It was difficult overrunning the soldiers who reportedly scampered out of sight in the face of the militants’ heavy gunfire.

The militants then promptly hoisted their flag and seized the administrative headquarters of Madagali local government area.

It would be recalled that a mysterious fire gutted the headquarters of the NFF located at Wuse Zone 7, Abuja on Wednesday, 20 August, 2014.

According to reports, the fire incident caused damage worth millions of naira to offices of the secretary, Accountant and others.

Gaiya, who is the Chairman House Committee On Sports,  while commenting on the incident, wondered why the fire razed the chief accountant and secretary general’s offices at a time his committee called on the federation to make their financial records available.

“This happened when my committee requested for NFF’s financial records, which makes it suspicious. Now all evidence may be lost in the fire that affected strategic office.

“Arsonists must be arrested and punished. Whoever is found wanting should be brought to book,” Gaiya said.

Few hours after the fire incident, the police said it has begun investigation into the incident. As at the time of compiling this report, the report of the investigation is yet to be made public.
Meanwhile, the NFF has called on all Nigerians to discountenance a statement by the Chairman of NFF Electoral Committee, Mr. Amoni Biambo, to the effect that elections into the NFF Executive Committee will hold at the General Assembly of Tuesday, 26th August, 2014.

“The statement must have been made in error. As far as the NFF is concerned, there will be no elections at the General Assembly of Tuesday, 26th August. Musa Amadu, said on Thursday.

Compendious Exercises For Pregnant Women.

Pregnant women who await their little bundle of joy have multiple concerns. Among those is whether or not she should take that extra step to stay fit even, while the whole world’s telling her to rest.

Physical exercise is any bodily activity that enhances or maintains physical fitness and overall health and wellness.

It is performed for various reasons including strengthening muscles and the cardiovascular system, honing athletic skills, weight loss or maintenance, as well as for the purpose of enjoyment.

Frequent and regular physical exercise boosts the immune system, and helps prevent the “diseases of affluence” such as heart disease, cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes and obesity.

It also improves mental health, helps prevent depression, helps to promote or maintain positive self-esteem, and can even augment an individual’s sex appeal or body image, which is also found to be linked with higher levels of self-esteem.

1. Walking:

Walking is a great way to become physically fit. If you have not been a fit person, then start with slow walks that are less strenuous to the body.

Though some women might face trouble with walking due to swollen feet as they move forward in their pregnancy, but other than that walking is safe.
Evidence, Dr. Bakshi says, “Expecting women can start with slow walks for a cardiovascular workout. Walking for a few minutes every day is safe and easy.”
“30 minutes of walking three days a week is a good routine. However, during pregnancy, you’ll need to scale back on the intensity,” says Bhargava.Remember to walk on smooth surfaces that are free of potholes. Wear appropriate walking shoes and avoid crowded places.
Bhargava suggests, “Walking on the treadmill is ideal since you can control the terrain. Add moderate hills when you’re up to it; go flat when you’re not or if hills trigger calf cramps. If you’re a runner, let your body tell you when it’s time to switch to walking.”2. Dancing:

Dancing is a fun way of staying fit. This is also one form of exercise that a pregnant woman and her baby will truly enjoy if you like to shake a leg.

Amazing: Fashola Challenges FG Over Revenue Allocation.

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola has challenged the Federal Government to justify the spending of its 52 percent revenue allocation it gets on monthly bases from the federation account.

Vanguard reports that the governor made the inquiry while speaking on Thursday at the flag-off of the expanded Lagos State Economic and Empowerment Programme, EEP, held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, the state capital.

Fashola, who described the federal government as the big brother, condemned its inability to spend its huge percent of the allocation it receives from the federation’s account for the betterment of the citizens. He said the federal government could use the large percent it collects as allocation to provide basic social amenities like power supply and adequate security, which would make life meaningful for Nigerians.

“There are three governments in the Nigeria family-the Federal, State and the local governments. The federal government gets 52% of the total income of the country; the 36 states governments’ share 26%, while the local governments share 22 percent. This is how our family is run. The big brother (the federal government) has taken more than half of the total revenue.

Oyedepo Charges Religious Leaders On 2015 Polls.

Less than seven months before the 2015 general elections in Nigeria, the founder of Living Faith Church, otherwise known as Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo has finally spoken on the polls that many believe would make or mar the country.

Oyedepo, while speaking with a delegation of the Lagos chapter of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, led by its chairman, Bishop Sola Ore, who paid him a courtesy call at his Ota, Ogun State office on Tuesday, 19 August, 2014, called on church leaders to ensure massive mobilisation of Christians across the country for the 2015 elections.
According to the clergymen, who will clock 60 on 27 September, such mobilisation will ensure that credible people are elected in public offices.

Oyedepo also pointed it out that voter registration was an important starting point if Nigerians would install credible leaders.

“The PFN constituency is a very large constituency and the mobilisation of this large number of worshippers calls for wisdom. There is need for wisdom to harness the large population of the church. The starting point is to ensure that our members register to vote. The church is a strong body in Lagos and across the country. Lagos, for instance, has many mega churches. We need to harness our human resources to create a platform for the church to have a voice,” Oyedepo said.

He added that: “There are groups that are building imaginary names, but we have the population and we can build real names. The Lagos city must have a feel of our impact.

“We are not going to vote for nonsense this time around. There is no political party in this world that will see the population of the church and ignore it.”

The revered cleric urged Christians to push for people who have credibility in the next political dispensation, saying “We believe the Christian culture promotes values that make for good government. I always advocate that a leader must have character, capability and courage to be able to make impact. Christians should look for such trait before voting anybody into power.”

While acknowledging that there are powers that contend with political office holders, Oyedepo said, “We need prayers and Christians must be ready to pray while not ignoring the ability and the power of choice they have.”

He regretted that Nigeria is going through hard times noting, “We are in trouble because there are too many people in positions of authority who don’t have capacity to confront the issues facing us as a country.”

Amazing: Pastor Enenche Attacks Fake Men Of God.

Pastor Paul Enenche, founder of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Abuja, has said most of the pastors in Nigeria were wolves in sheep’s clothing.

In an 11 minute video posted on YouTube, Pastor Enenche said there were many native doctors wearing suits and claiming to be men of God.
Preaching angrily, the man of God said there is a wizard in this nation who calls himself a Prophet and some men of God are rushing there for meetings, adding that pastors receive N100, 000, Reverends earn N150, 000 and Bishops are given N500, 000 per meeting.

Enenche said: “The agenda is to impact them with satanic power. People that God didn’t call for lack of job and lack of what to do with their life; they become Pastors, they are running to such places.”

Boko Haram Track, Kill Survivors Of Previous Kano Attack.

Boko Haram insurgents hunted down residents of the Krenuwa village in the Marte district, Kano State, who had fled their homes to escape repeated attacks, and killed about 10 people.

The residents fled to nearby communities after a Boko Haram raid last month that left seven dead and saw the extremists raze a military camp, police station and several homes.

About a dozen militants stormed the villages of Durwa and Maforo in the Marte district on Sunday, where some of them were seeking refuge.

“They came on motorcycles and gathered people before singling out their victims who moved in from Krenuwa after it was attacked,” said Usman Ari, a Durwa resident.

“They shot six of them dead and slaughtered four,” said Ari, who fled to the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, some 100 kilometres (60 miles) away after the attack.

After the attack in Durwa, where six were killed, the suspected Boko Haram gunmen stormed nearby Maforo and killed four, said Hassan Goni, another Durwa resident, who also fled to Maiduguri.

“We are afraid they are going to come back for more attacks which is why we left,” he added.

After the attack on Krenuwa village, a counter-offensive by soldiers killed five insurgents and captured five more.

Krenuwa resident Abba Kolomi said Boko Haram had also killed six people from the village who sought refuge across the border in Chad.

The Marte district was one of the areas where Boko Haram chased out the government last year, forcing President Goodluck Jonathan to declare a state of emergency in the region and a military offensive to crush the uprising.

A scorched-earth military response reclaimed the territory but deadly Boko Haram raids on towns and villages in the area have continued unabated.

Ba, who managed to score some crucial goals in Chelsea, complained that he was often left playing second fiddle to Fernando Torres.

“Sometimes when you are at a club with a lot of big stars, the name counts for more than the statistics. Unfortunately, it was like that in my case. But I am happy I moved from Newcastle to Chelsea and achieved what I did. I have lots of friends there. Eden Hazard is one of my best friends, I am close to Branislav Ivanovic, too. All my wishes are for them to win the league” Ba said

Ba’s side will be playing Arsenal in Tuesday’s Champions League play-off first leg. It would be recalled that the former Newcastle striker came really close to signing a deal with the Gunners before he was swiftly pulled away by Mourinho.

Pastor Chris Okotie Speaks On Ebola Virus Disease.

With the curent fear of Ebola Virus Disease in the country, Pastor Chris Okotie of the Household of God’s Church has shared his opinion on the deadly virus.
In Pastor Chris Okotie’s article tagged ‘EBOLA TERROR AND THE $1b QUESTION‘ he said: “Like Boko Haram’s crazy insurgents who kill their victims and the soldiers who fight to protect them; the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), kills its victims along with some medical personnel who battle to save their lives. These are the twin devils of the season.
The twin scourges of 2014 share many other characteristics. Their roots date back to decades, but their ravages of human souls across the sub- Sahara Africa only peaked this year, even as a disbelieving world is left agape by their ferocity.

Comparable: FEAR OF EBOLA: Cameroon Closes Borders, Suspends Flight From Nigeria

Advancing mercilessly against its hapless preys like jungle predators, EVD and Boko Haram kill with lightening speed, and have so far defied solution. It is no hyperbole to label Ebola as the Boko Haram of lethal, viral diseases, which still confounds the world’s best scientific minds.

These two crises have placed Nigeria on the world’s radar, with Ebola pushing the Chibok Girls’ abduction (a Boko Haram by-product), and some of our familiar maladies like corruption to the sidelines at the moment.

Prior to the arrival of the Liberian man, late Patrick Sawyer into the country, the epidemic of Ebola was widely reported in neighbouring Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, where it had claimed more than 900 lives. Our government ought to have known that given the free movement of people across borders in the ECOWAS sub -region, the chance of a carrier of the Ebola virus coming into this country is very high indeed.

Precautionary measures ought to have been taken to thoroughly screen ECOWAS passengers at our entry ports, and land borders. This was not done, even as the EVD recorded serial deaths in the worst hit countries nearby. This apparent policy failure on the part of government led to the spread of this killer epidemic to Nigeria, through contacts by health workers and co-travellers with the index case, the late Sawyer, who was reportedly under watch for EVD in his native Liberia, before he sneaked into Nigeria on that fateful day.

Why Instant Noodles Could Cause Heart Attack.

A new research says habitual eaters of instant noodles are at the risk of experiencing heart attacks.

According to the study published moments ago by Fox News, it says that the instant noodles commonly known as ramen may increase people’s risk of metabolic changes linked to heart disease and stroke.

The research added that eating instant noodles could pose a challenge with the human metabolic process thus resulting in heart diseases and stroke in the long run.

Ordinarily, noodles, a staple food is seen as cheap, easy to prepare and best eaten by school children and workers who have little time to prepare and eat major foods.
In the study, “women in South Korea who consumed more of the pre-cooked blocks of dried noodles were more likely to have metabolic syndrome regardless of what else they ate, or how much they exercised.”

The research, published in the Journal of Nutrition, emphasised that people who had metabolic syndrome could have high blood pressure or high blood sugar levels, with the consequence being the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

Co-author of the study, Hyun Shin, a doctoral candidate at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, USA, said although instant noodle is a convenient and delicious food, there could be an increased risk for metabolic syndrome given the high sodium, unhealthy saturated fat and glycemic loads in the food.

It was gathered that to arrive at this conclusion, Shin and his team at Baylor University and Harvard studied had investigated the health and diet of at least 11,000 adults in South Korea between ages 19 to 64 looking at how many times they ate instant noodles every week.

The researchers found that women who ate instant noodles twice or more every week had a higher risk of developing metabolic syndrome than those who ate less.

However, the researchers said they could not link any association between eating noodles such number of times and developing metabolic syndrome in men, arguing that this may be linked to the difference in gender of men and women including the effect of sex hormones and metabolism.

The researchers said they picked population in South Korea because the country is the highest consumer of noodles in the world with a consumption rate of 3.4 billion packages of instant noodles in 2010.

Lisa Young, a Professor and nutritionist at the New York University, while speaking about the study, said it could apply to every part of the world where noodles (ramen) are sold and eaten

“Instant noodles are high in fat, high in salt, high in calories and they’re processed; all those factors could contribute to some of the health problems addressed.

“That doesn’t mean that every single person is going to respond the same way, but the piece to keep in mind is that it’s not a healthy product, and it is a processed food,” Fox News quoted Young as saying, adding that processed foods are known to contain high amounts of sugar and salt since they are designed to have long shelf lives.

Young added that to eat instant noodles and avoid the dangers in it, “number one, don’t eat it every day; number two, portion control (in which one should eat small amount of instant noodles and mix them with vegetables and other healthier, non-processed foods).”
