The Director of Lagos State Fire Service, Rasaq Fadipe, while speaking with newsmen, confirmed the fire incident.

He said: “An outbreak of fire is on now at Ijeh Police Barracks, Obalende. 24 rooms were consumed by fire.”
He however informed that, “two fire trucks from Onikan and Sari Iganmu are on ground to douse the fire.”

Meanwhile, it would be recalled that on 29 August, 2014, a police inspector and his wife fell from the balcony of their apartment on the second floor of a two-storey building during a fight at the same barracks.

The officer was later reported to have died at a private hospital following serious head injuries he sustained.

The widow of the late police officer was to be in intensive care unit as doctors battled to save her life.
