Excitement: Brave Policemen Rescue Mother, Baby From Kidnappers.

A kidnapped mother and her baby was rescued by the police officers at Asaba,  the capital of Nigeria’s Delta State.

The kidnappers put their abduction plan into action while Mrs. Adeyemi  was driving along Standard Life Bible Church Road, off Direct Labour Agency, DLA Road, Asaba.  The woman together with her baby were abducted and taken away to an unknown destination.

Following a tip-0ff from an anonymous source, the police officers stormed the hideaway of the kidnappers in Issele-Uku and rescued the victims. Both of them were delivered to a police station for further investigation while detectives are searching for the fleeing suspects.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the kidnap and rescue of the victims, said the police quickly mobilised and found the baby and vehicle where they were abandoned.

Nigeria is now prominently ranked globally among countries where kidnapping is rampant. From ransom, to terrorist related, ritual purposes, there have also been cases of stage-managed kidnappings. In some of Nigeria’s 36 states there has been progress in tackling the kidnappers.

But beefed-up security in some south-eastern states, such as Akwa Ibom and Abia, may have merely pushed the gangs westward to cities such as Lagos, where burgeoning middle-class districts are being increasingly targeted. On the list of countries with rampant cases of kidnapping are Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq, Yemen, Pakistan, Venezuela, Mexico, Haiti, Russia, Ecuador, Brazil, Philippines and Colombia.

Edo State Government Sets Up Committee On Ebola Virus Disease.

The Edo State Government has finally responded to the outbreak of the Ebola virus in the country by setting up a Rapid Response Committee to prevent the spread of the deadly disease to the state.

According to a report published on P.M.NEWS, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Aihanuwa Eregie formally inaugurated the committee on Monday, 18 August, 2014.

Speaking at the occasion, Eregie, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Peter Ugbodaga, said the committee is one of the largest committees ever set up by the state government, adding that, it was an indication of the seriousness and importance attached to curtailing the spread of Ebola in the state.
“You will agree with me that since the unfortunate importation of the deadly Ebola virus disease by the American-Liberian, Dr. Patrick Sawyer on the 20 July 2014, the disease has been declared a serious national emergency requiring all hands to be on the deck to prevent, control and isolate our unfortunate brothers and sisters that are down with the illness. This committee is a critical step in the prevention, control, isolation and treatment of cases of the disease,” she said.

Baby Suspected Of Having Ebola Virus Dies Of Malaria.

Kwara State Committee on Control and Prevention of Ebola Virus Disease on Sunday revealed that a seven-month old baby suspected to be suffering from the Ebola disease in the state has died of illness said to be related to malaria.

The Chairman of the committee, Sunday Opabodola, who made this known in an interview with Daily Independent reporter, said it was discovered that the baby didn’t have the deadly disease after a confirmation came from the result of the test done on the blood sample of the baby at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) that reads negative.

He said the baby was suspected to have been infected with the deadly virus after showing Ebola-like symptoms like blood seen in his vomits, a development that made the state government take the boy to isolation centre at the state Specialist Hospital and took sample of his blood for the test.

Opabodola said the result confirmed that there is no suspected or real case of Ebola in the state, and urged people to stop spreading rumour about Ebola outbreak in the state. He, however, stressed that people should take seriously the advice they were given on how to avoid infection and spread of the Ebola virus.

Below is an excerpt from the interview:

“We took the blood sample of the boy and his mother and sent it to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for screening. Unfortunately, we lost the boy the second day. The fortunate thing is that the result of the boy and mother’s test came in yesterday (Saturday) night from LUTH and it was negative. So I am happy to tell all Kwarans that up till now we don’t have any report of a suspicious case not to talk about confirmed case.I can say that the boy’s case was a mismanaged malaria disease in the first hospital. The history we later got was that when they could not rehydrate him intravenously in the first hospital, they gave him an intubation (putting a tube through the nose into the stomach) to feed him. When he was not responding they removed the tube and transferred him to the paediatrician’s hospital in town and the first vomiting the boy had contained blood. Intubation can cause bleeding from the stomach and that is exactly what happened” Opabodola said.

BASE ON EBOLA: Osun Stops Foreigners From Festival.

Following the outbreak of the Ebola virus in West African countries like Guinea, Sierre Leone, and Liberia, the Osun State Government has declared that tourists from outside the state would not be allowed to participate in the forthcoming Osun Osogbo Festival scheduled to hold on Friday, 22 August, 2014.

This was disclosed at the weekend by Osun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Sunday Akere at a press conference in Osogbo, saying that the move was part of measures to prevent the spread of Ebola virus to the state.
He noted that efforts were being made by the state government to make Osun an Ebola-free state.

The commissioner, who lamented the high spread of the Ebola virus in Nigeria since the late Patrick Sawyer brought the disease to the country from Liberia on 20 July, 2014, stressed the need for traditionalists, especially Osun devotees, to co-operate with the state government in its bid to prevent the spread of the deadly disease.

Former MAn United Coach D. Moyes said: Man Utd Should Have Believed In Me.

Former Manchester United and Everton Manager, David Moyes has come out and finally taken a swipe at his former Manchester Bosses, accusing them of not handing him more time.

In a recent sit down with journalist from The Mail yesterday, the manager said that his ex bosses where disrespectful and had even failed to notify him of his sack, hearing it rather from the media.
He said he woke up and arrived at the training ground at 4am on April 22 to train and strategize alone and thats when he got hold of the news.

Moyes Said: “I was devastated to lose the job because it was something I felt I could make a real success of. We knew it was going to take time to make the necessary changes. It was going to take time to evolve. But we were in the process of making other important changes. In the end, I don’t feel I was given time to succeed or fail.”
